The SPX Art ProgramThe art program is designed to nurture creativity, self-expression, and artistic skills in students from grades K-8. Through a variety of media and techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, and more, students explore the elements of art and principles of design while learning about diverse artists and art movements.In elementary grades, the program emphasizes hands-on exploration, foundational skills, and beginning observational skills encouraging students to experiment with materials and express their ideas visually. Lessons are often integrated with other subjects to enrich learning and foster connections across the curriculum.As students progress into middle school, the curriculum becomes more sophisticated, introducing more in-depth projects while developing more advanced skills, as well as focusing on discovering their individual style and voice.Overall, the art program aims to build confidence, critical thinking, and appreciation for the visual arts, preparing students for further artistic pursuits in high school and beyond.
